Many people are familiar with architecture as a profession, which it is, but they probably don’t know what it fully is.
What is Architecture?
Architecture is the planning and designing of not just buildings but structures too, that will be built. Someone has done architecture in a way or another. The invention that me and other grade 9’s designed and built in grade 8 for STEM was a piece of architecture. The cell model you designed and built in grade 8 was a piece of architecture.
Architecture in Relation to Art
Architecture is art. More specifically, it’s visual art, which i described more in depth in my previous post. Visual art is art that’s hands on, like drawing or video editing, that is meant to be viewed visually but is NOT dance. The difference between the dance and visual arts is that dance is created physically by your body. Architecture is visual art because you’re creating a design on paper or digitally, like drawing, that will be built and viewed by people like poetry.
Architects
Architects are professional designers that specialize in building making and structure making. They know how to make things look visually pleasing or aesthetic, and how to make them stand out without being ugly. But how do you become an architect? You have to go to university or college that has an architecture program, and get a bachelors degree, which will take about 5 years of university. There’s actually a good amount of universities in Canada that you can study architecture in. Some of them being:
- University of Waterloo (approximately an hour from Pearson)
- University of Manitoba (in Winnipeg Manitoba)
- University of Toronto (St George Campus, approximately 45 minutes away)
In conclusion I think architecture is a very fun and interesting profession that I might pursue. What do you want to be when you grow up?
